Sin: Behind me
Ishtar: At my right hand
Gabil: At my left hand

Aya: the Dawn in the East
Lugal-Girra: The Eternal Flame in the North
Sin: The Moon in the West
Mesalamthea-Gabil: Master of the Forge in the South
Shamash: The Shining One, Eternal Above
ASTR-Chemsosh: The Black Sun Below
Ninghizida: The Eternal Serpent Without
Enki: Master of Magicians Within

Wherever should I walk is thy temple
Thy golden flames ensorcelled forever about me

When I drawn near the unto the sick and weary
When I lay my hand upon his head
may a kindly spirit, a kindly guardian
stand beside me.

Cast out the wickedness back into the abyss
Let us walk in your radiance eternal!


Hymn to the Sun God

O Shamash
You flame up the foundation of the heavens
You have opened the lock of brilliant Heaven
The bolt of the sky has been removed

O Shamash, you lift up your head to the earth
O Shamash, you cover the earth with your heavenly splendor

When you look upon the land, you bring forth light
The way of the land guides you

You have created the beasts of the field
the living creatures

You are father and mother to them
they listen to you
You provide them shelter and food

O Shamash!
You are chief of the gods
You go before the Anunnaki.
In the heavens you shine!

With Anu and Enlil you are king of mankind!
You guide the law of all people!
O god of justice in the heavens:
Thou art eternal

Thou art the wisdom and the justice of the land!
You know the pious, and the wicked

O Shamash, righteousness lifts it's head up to you!
O Shamash, wickedness is like a whip torn through you

O Shamash, you are the helper of Anu and Enlil
O Shamash, you are the judge of heaven and earth

The god of man steps devoutly before you
to speak on account of his son
establish for him a command of peace:
A command of life!

I, loving kindness of a joyous heart
He looks to you as the beasts of the fields

In gracious thought
Grant us thy splendor

May Shamash, the king of the son of his god
Speak so that into the hand of righteousness
Wickedness is delivered!
Lord of the great place of kullab, the hero in his land
To thee this man, the son of his god
Raises his voice

O Shamash, you are the lofty Judge
You are the great lord of the lands
Lord of all living creatures
You are the merciful one of the lands

O Shamash at this day purify and cleanse this king
the son of his god
Whatever evil Sorcery which is in my body
may it be removed at your decree!

Amongst all the gods there is none but you who knows such toil

At your rising in the dawn, the gods of the lands assemble
Your fierce glare covers all the earth
Of all the lands of different tongues
You know their intentions, you see their footprints
All shall kneel before you,
the universe longs for your light!

The vast expanse of the seas
Whose depths not even the Maskim know
Your radiance reaches the depths
Those of the vast ocean can see your light

You are not dejected each day,
Your surface never dark
By night you destroy the darkness
To distant lands and uncounted leagues
You have persevered, rising again and again!

Even in eclipse, shines thy eternal crown
Even in the night sky you shine in the moon!

Shamash! SOL INVICTUS! SHINING ONE!
Eternal is the Unconquered sun!

O Shamash, thy Ashipu calls to thee
Thy will: my hands
You cross time and time again
O Shamash, who has known darkness
Guide us through the darkness
O Shamash, thou art the beacon in the abyss
